Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Question - Will the cheer floor be laid out left to right - vs front to back (I am asking to be able to position my team correctly on the floor and would like to use the cross lines as keys?
Answer -
Mats will be laid vertical
towards the judges.
Question - Are we allowed to put a centering prop in the middle of the floor - a stuff animal or something?
Answer -
Per the AYF guidelines, Banners, flags, megaphones, Poms and signs are the only props allowed, therefore no stuffed animal on the floor. The coaches can keep the mascot/prop with them when seated.
Question - What happens if you are
under your routine time?
Answer -
No penalties if you are
under time for either music or routine.
Question - I plan on using props in my routine. Do I need to fill out a prop approval form?
Answer -
You do not have to submit a prop approval form. You probably do know this rule but I have included it for your reference.
(a) Banners, flags, megaphone, Poms, and signs are the only props allowed. The use of poms and/or props is prohibited during tumbling, partner stunt/pyramid building, dismounts and all stunt transitions which require the use of hands. The flyer may obtain and use poms or props when secure in a stunt. (For example, poms may be handed to a flyer once in a extension prep. The flyer may then transition to an extension with poms in hand. Exceptions are not limited to this example). (Tumbling exception: a forward/backward roll may be performed with poms in hand) The placement of poms and props should be a safe distance away from the performance area to eliminate a safety hazard. Hiding poms or
props anywhere on the body or uniform is a safety issue and therefore, is prohibited (In Mounting divisions only).
Question - Do I need to collect
original birth certificates for competition?
Answer -
No we do not need them for
state competition. I will most likely require the original for
teams advancing to National Competition.
Question - Is
it possible that some of our teams may be performing in the
morning session and others in the afternoon session?
Answer
-
Yes, I have not
received all the declarations so I do not know the schedule at
this time.
Question - Do
my parents need to purchase 2 tickets if they have children in
both sessions?
Answer

No, one (1) ticket will be
good for the entire day.
Please inform your parents that the Whittemore Center has a
NO RE-ENTRY Policy
Question - Do

but they do need to have their wrist bands for entry with
the team and into the teams seating area.
Question - Do

purchase tickets and will not be able to accompany the teams
in the seating area.
Question - Could
you tell me what the size is of the mat that we are competing
on?
Answer -
42ft X 54ft
Question - Regarding team
tumble, if "most" of the team does the team
tumble it is considered a team tumble. At the cheer clinic it
was said that all cheerleaders must tumble to consider it a
"team" tumble. A statement made at a presidents
meeting was, If your kids can't do it well, don't do it. We have a
couple of girls who cannot tumble and they are going home
in tears because they are getting stressed over letting the
team down because they won't have a team tumble or they are
going to hurt themselves trying to do something their bodies
won't allow them to do. To me I would rather take a minor
deduction than to have them hurt themselves or to affect their
self esteem. Please advise what a team tumble means at our
level.
Answer -
Coaches did
learn at the clinic a "team tumble" is the whole
team. But this only applies to high school teams because the
clinic was focused on High School rules. We are dealing with
youth cheerleading. The score interpretation includes
"less that half squad" and "half or more
of squad". It is not vital that the whole team
tumbles. You need to work with the child's ability.
