Deb Smith Academic Achievement Program

About the Program

The Academic Achievement Award program began in 2005 acknowledging the academic success and community involvement for football and spirit participants. The NHYFSC hope is to encourage children to strive to do well in school and participate in their community.

In 2022 the NHYFSC has renamed the Academic Award Program to the Deb Smith Academic Achievement Award program in honor of the late Deb Smith who was a highly valued member of the NHYFSC Conference board for several decades. We reference her as the heart and brain of the NHYFSC.  

How to Qualify

Participants must have a 90% or higher-grade average.
Participants must have entered the 5th grade or higher for the current season school year.

The grading scale on the report card must be used. If one is not listed, proof of the school's grade conversion scale must be obtained. Alternate grading systems can be used with prior approval from the NHYFSC Academic committee.

What We Offer

The NHYFSC proudly acknowledges 3 levels of Academic Achievers.

• Gold Level - 96% or higher

• Silver Level - 95% to 93%

• Bronze Level - 92% - 90%

All qualified recipients receive a Certificate of Achievement.

Gold recipient's that qualify to the final round will receive a scholarship in the form of a check for continued education in addition to the Certificate of Achievement. 

NHYFSC Review and Selection Process

Once the application has been submitted on this form, our Academic Coordinator will review each applicant’s submission per the below:

Calculate all the applicants’ GPAs per the below criteria.

• Final numerical grade is listed on the report card, this will be used.

• Non-Numerical grades will be converted utilizing the grade scale listed on the report card or attached to the report card.

• If no grade scale is provided, we will use the grade scale that most closely reflects the grade system used.

  • We have collected many grade scales from schools throughout NH over the years.

• Quarter or Trimester grades are only listed we will average of all marking terms. (rounded to 2 decimal places). We will not round up.

• All subjects on the report card will be included except Behavior, Conduct, and Effort.

Academic recipients are honored at our annual banquet held in April!
